Song for Athene

£35.00

John Tavener’s Song For Athene  is an unaccompanied choral work, and was commissioned by the BBC and was first performed in January 1994. The work was written in memory of a Tavener family friend, Athene Hariades, who died tragically in March of the previous year. The text is taken from Shakespeare’s Hamlet and the Orthodox Funeral Service. The piece was also sung at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales.

This arrangement places two small groups antiphonally on either side of the stage, whilst the rest of the band remains seated in the centre.
